And yes, I agree, it is painstaking work to become wholly human. And now that we have entered into an era of machines, I think the cost will be even higher to pursue and maintain our humanity (a thought that has preoccupied me a great deal in the last year).

For me too, both in tenderly caring for the shame and martyrdom of my evangelical upbringing, and noticing how acutely it presents itself in the mainstream western culture, particularly across gender lines. Aaaargh! And so the work of being wholly human is at least partially resisting the systems of domination, and creating something more vibrant and free. The machines are clearly not helping, so that’s been a preoccupation for me as well.
